It was only last week that we wrote a post on this blog for Fashion Revolution Day talking about the amazing producers in Nepal who make our handknitted knitwear range. The very next day we heard that a massive earthquake had hit Nepal. Over 5000 people have been killed by this earthquake and over 10,000 people have been injured.
By all accounts the country has been devastated.
Made In Nepal
Since 2008 not long after we established bibico we started working with a wonderful women’s cooperative based in Kathmandu Nepal. Groups of women work in and around Kathmandu to hand knit our jumpers and cardigans.
We have visited Nepal in several occasions to meet and work with the producers and we have always been greeted by great warmth by all the people there. The Nepalese are peaceful, humble and caring people. What has been inflicted on them and their country is a tragedy.
Based on the limited contact we have had with our producers thankfully they are safe however we are aware there has been some major damage to their workshops and offices.
