We wanted to share with you a look at this wonderful estate where we have been lucky enough to shoot our autumn/winter 2026 campaign.
The Hall Estate is a magnificent Grade I-listed Jacobean mansion set in the heart of the picturesque town of Bradford on Avon – just 10 minutes from our home in Bath.
It is described as “one of the finest surviving examples of its type” by Country Life, and with over 400 years of history, beautifully appointed ensuite rooms where you can stay, and seven acres of historic grounds to explore, this is a truly unique and immersive heritage experience.
The Hall Estate is supported by The Alex Moulton Charitable Trust and promoted as a site of historical and architectural significance.
What is there to know?
There is a full detailed history on the Hall Estate site but a few interesting dates show the span of the Hall’s history.
The Hall Estate was built in 1610 for John Hall, a local wealthy mill owner, over an existing manor house that was remodelled into the Jacobean manor house it is today.
In 1726, Evelyn Pierrepont, became the 2nd Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull and would inherit The Hall Estate and numerous lands near and around Bath Abbey as the city rose to fame. He was a prominent early excavator of the Roman Baths.
In 1796, The Hall Estate passed to, Charles Meadows. No longer needing the estate, he sold it in 1805 to London industrialist Thomas Divett, who used it as a workshop, store, and housing for weavers. As Bradford on Avon’s woollen industry declined, The Hall Estate fell into disrepair.
In the 19th century, The Hall Estate became home to Stephen Moulton, an industrial pioneer who brought rubber vulcanisation to Britain. As the local woollen trade in Bradford on Avon declined, The Hall Estate emerged as a hub of innovation—sparking a new industrial era that would reshape the local economy and Britain’s industrial landscape.
In 1950 engineer and inventor Dr. Alex Moulton acquired full ownership of The Hall Estate. For over six decades, Alex Moulton lived alone in The Hall Estate, dedicating himself to engineering innovation and preserving the grandeur of the house he cherished. His distinguished life came to a close in 2012, leaving behind not only a remarkable legacy of invention but also a deep and enduring connection to one of England’s finest Jacobean houses.
The AMCT – what is it?
The Alex Moulton Charitable Trust was founded by Alex Moulton in 1977.
Following his death in December 2012, the assets of The Hall Estate passed to the Charitable Trust for safekeeping, conservation and preservation.
As CEO of the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust, Christine Olivieri has led the revitalisation of The Hall Estate, transforming this Grade I listed property into a sustainable heritage and community hub. From overseeing restoration projects to developing commercial income streams and securing vital heritage funding, her leadership ensures the long-term future of this remarkable estate.

What is there to do?
· Tours. There are several guided tours available – all filled with fascinating looks into the hall’s history!
You can take a tour of the Hall Estate, or just the grounds. There is even a special Christmas at the Hall tour with mulled wine and mince pies. These are just some of the tours on offer.
· Stay. The Hall Estate is not a conventional hotel — it offers something far more rare. With only a handful of rooms available, every stay feels deeply personal. This is a place where history, atmosphere, and privacy come together in a truly distinctive way.
· Weddings. The historic 17th-century venue allows you the freedom to create a wedding that is entirely your own, shaped by your vision and brought to life within a setting rich in heritage, character and natural beauty.
· Cycle Challenge
This was the magnificent home of Dr Alex Moulton, designer, engineer, and inventor of the iconic Moulton bicycle. First unveiled in November 1962 at the Earls Court Cycle Show in London, the original Moulton bicycle marked the beginning of a design revolution.
Now, in 2026, the 62/26 Cycle Challenge invites cyclists from around the world to take part in a global week of riding, celebrating a legacy of innovation, engineering, and design.
Riders across the globe are raising vital funds for The Hall Estate in Bradford on Avon.
Taking place between 16 August and 26 August 2026, the challenge invites participants to ride anywhere in the world, on any bike, and over a distance of their choice, with 62 miles as the symbolic target, while raising sponsorship in support of The Alex Moulton Charitable Trust.
