Bath is our home town and I have been living here for over 30 years. In that time Bath has gone through some big changes some good some not so good but without doubt whether you are visiting the UK from Japan, America, Australia, France or Timbuktoo Bath is one of the most beautiful cities in the UK and a must visit.
You will find many of the same big retailers as you do in Tokyo, New York or any other small city or town around the world, however tucked away on some of Bath’s beautiful Georgian streets are some wonderful shops that are independently run and are unique to Bath.
Here is our list of the 5 best shops to visit in Bath:
1. Fine Cheese Company - Bath
Do you know your Stinking Bishop from your White Nancy or even red Leicester from your Cheddar? Well if don’t you must pay a visit The Fine Cheese Company and find out.
Located on Walcot St (the artisian quarter of Bath) the Fine Cheese Company has a huge selection of cheeses. Some of the cheeses are imported however a large number are local cheeses some of which are from local Somerset farms. One of my favourites is even from Bath called Bath Soft Cheese.
You can also indulge yourself in some tasty sweet treats many of which are made locally. If you are feeling hungry you can also have lunch there in the shop’s own café.
Find them at: 29-31 Walcot St, Bath BA1 5BN
Find them online at www.finecheese.co.uk
2. Katherine Fraser - Bath
A short walk away is Katherine Fraser home of local textile designer Katherine Fraser. Since 2010 she has been creating modern and contemporary fabrics using her traditional weaving looms.
She has a beautiful range of hand woven scarves as well as a wide selection of knitwear and accessories.
You can often see Katherine working on her loom which is on show in the shop.

bibico is a beautiful women’s clothing shop tucked away on one of Bath’s prettiest streets. Created in Bath by local designer Nieves Ruiz Ramos bibico offers its own brand of simple but stylish clothing made from quality natural materials and produced ethically.
You can find a selection of cosy knitwear and accessories in Winter and in Summer you can find some beautiful cotton dresses and tops made in a variety of unique prints.
A shop that sells individually designed clothes at affordable prices.

4. Bertie & Jack
This is not a shop so to say but a market stall in the centre of Bath. Named after the founders children Bertie and Jack design and produce feel good, colourful wall art. Their cut-out concept is created by cutting their illustrations from mount board and layer Bertie & Jack patterns and prints behind the cut-out shape. They look fantastic as well as being unique!
They also have a beautiful selection of prints of Bath that would make a great souvenir or gift.

5. Grasse
Located just on the other side of Bath’s beautiful Ponte Vecchio you will discover the Grasse. Grasse offers a fantastic selection of furniture and home furnishings that have been sourced both locally and internationally. All their products have a stylish rustic charm feel to them. Some of our favourites include The Hand Carved Wooden Blanket Chest from Pakastans Swat Valley or something a bit easier to carry The Luxury Alpaca Blanket.
