Our Partnership with a Fairtrade co-operative in mumbai
A remarkable 90% of our woven dresses, tops, skirts and trousers and all our organic cotton jersey have been manufactured for the last thirteen years by a non-profit co-operative in Mumbai, which was founded in 1984. This fantastic organisation works tirelessly to empower the disadvantaged women from the slums, vastly improving their quality of life and therefore creating a more secure future for them and their families.
The co-operative currently employs 270 women full-time, around 40 part-time but also has 159 children in its educational sponsorships programs. Their aim is to break the cycle of poverty by supporting each worker with training, childcare and health insurance. The organisation is independently certified as Fair Trade by the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation) and has also been awarded certification to manufacture organic clothing. In 2019 the coop installed enough solar panels on their roof to power there entire factory with solar power.
It gives us immense satisfaction to have been a part of the courageous and inspiring journey the co-operative has had and it’s fantastic to know that each garment we create with them makes a real difference to the lives of so many women and their families.
